Álvaro Laborinho Lúcio has a degree in Law and a Master in
Legal and Civil Sciences from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra.
He was Director of the Judiciary Police School and the Center for Judicial
Studies, deputy to the Assembly of the Republic and performed government
functions as Secretary of State for Judicial Administration, Minister of
Justice and Minister of the Republic for the Azores. He was a visiting
Professor of Criminal Law at the Autonomous University of Lisbon and a member
of the Board of Governors of the Judiciary. He is a Jubilee Counselor Judge of
the Supreme Court of Justice. Laborinho Lúcio is a Doctor Honoris Causa in
Education Sciences by the University of Minho and a Member of the International
Academy of Portuguese Culture; with several published works, namely, Education,
Art and Citizenship; O Julgamento - Uma Narrativa Crítica da Justiça; and the
novels O Chamador, O Homem Que Escrevia Azulejos e O Beco da Liberdade. Awarded
the Grand Cross of the Order of D. Raimundo de Peñaforte by the King of Spain
and the Grand Cross of the Order of Christ by the President of The Portuguese
Republic.
He presides over the General Assembly of the Portuguese
Association for the Rights of Minors and Family and the General Assembly of A.P.A.V.
He was also President of the General Council of the
University of Minho.
